The Oxford Museum began in 1964 with the finding of 18th and 19th century bottles and pottery shards. From these first artifacts has evolved a rare mosaic depicting Oxford’s past. As such, the museum has become a valuable part of the understanding the history of Oxford. Its exhibits are exclusively devoted to its people, their way of life, and their contribution to our country since the 1600s.The Mission of The Oxford Museum is:

To collect, preserve, and exhibit data and objects of historical interest relating or pertaining to the lives, habits and customs of the people who lived in or had any part in building and developing the Town of Oxford and outlying areas.

To operate The Oxford Museum which offers the public the opportunity to learn about the history of the town and the vital role it played in the history of the state and the nation.

Hiding in plain sight in the heart of Cambridge is the Richardson Maritime Museum, one of Dorchester County’s gems. Even local residents frequently walk by the classic brick building on the corner of High and Locust Streets and assume it is a bank.

Since it spent almost all of the first hundred years of its existence in just that capacity, that assumption is well founded. However, passersby are missing a treat if they don’t take time to stop in and see what the former bank now holds.

A charming, tree-lined and waterbound village with a population of less than 1000, Oxford is one of the oldest towns in America and has a long history in maritime activities. Early in the day, you will still find local watermen at the town dock unloading the catch of the day. You can watch the sailboats arriving from all over the bay to dine at the various local restaurants our town has to offer.

While other waterfront towns have succumbed to waterfront condos and glitz, Oxford has retained it’s historic charm. The tourism and leisure activities are fueled by people’s desire for quiet charm, fresh air, summer breezes, and a haven from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We are an all-volunteer organization founded in 1973 and headquartered on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Our Mission is to preserve the historical Eastern Shore rural way of life.

In support of our Mission, we maintain a 70-acre facility five miles north of Easton MD on which we collect, restore, display, and operate a wide variety of antique industrial machinery and agricultural equipment. We welcome the public to our annual show held on the grounds during the weekend after the Fourth of July. We also sponsor many other events and share our facility with various community groups. We are always actively seeking new members who will share our interests and goals.
