Delaware Home Struck By Lightning Wednesday Night

Harbeson, Delaware -At approximately 9:30 this evening IRVFC and mutual aid were dispatched for a residential structure fire in the 32500 block Woods Ct off Sloan Rd.

It was reported to be a lightning strike with smoke condition and fire possibly in the basement and 1st floor bedroom.

Engine 80-3 arrived first and confirmed the smoke condition and immediately stretched a 1 3/4 handline. Additional arriving crews assisted with opening up areas searching for the seat of the fire. It was found that lightning had struck the house, and had struck a propane line.

The fire was located in the flooring between the basement and 1st floor.

While operating at this fire, another fire was dispatched just a few doors down with the same report. With apparatus staged, they arrived immediately and had fire in the crawlspace.

Both incidents were turned over to the state fire marshals office. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Assisting at the scenes were Lewes Fire DepartmentRehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, local EMS and Sussex County EMSMillsboro Fire Company provided coverage.
