Caroline County, Md. – At 2:20 this morning firefighters from Maryland’s Federalsburg, Hurlock and Preston Volunteer Fire Companies along with Delaware’s Seaford VFC were dispatched to the 100 block of Reliance Avenue for reports of a working house fire.

While en route crews learned that the home was on fire and that the occupants were out.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed that the backside of the two-story wood-framed home was on fire and began their attack on the blaze while simultaneously searching the home for victims.

After several minutes crews reported that the fire had been knocked down and that they were checking for extension to other areas of the home. Crews searching the second floor reported that fire had extended to the second floor and quickly doused the remaining fire.

The search for victims met with negative results. The occupants were out of the house as first reported.

At 45 minutes after crews were dipatched, Command placed the fire under control with crews remaining on scene mopping up hot spots.

Three occupants, a man and two children ages 6 and 7 were displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with clothing and a place to stay.

Other occupants of the home, believed to be subdivided into apartments, found a place to stay with family and friends.
