The county is named for Lady Caroline Eden, the wife of Maryland’s last colonial governor, Robert Eden (1741 - 1784). Lady Caroline was the daughter of Charles Calvert, Fifth Lord Baltimore, and the sister of Frederick Calvert, Sixth Lord Baltimore. This area was once known for its working watermen making their living on the Chesapeake Bay, and now it has also become a paradise for boaters, and a haven to relax for locals and visitors. Whether you’re looking for the solitude of a sailing trip on a sun-kissed afternoon, a rollicking festival, or a relaxing stroll through one of these villages, you’ll find it and much more, all in Talbot County.
